Blog issues

Apparently there are some problems with my new blog, below is a sampling of the complaints. Comments from DAC:

I don't like your blog. I'd have to sign up to not post anonymously, and that's too much work. and discussions will get buried. I don't like it at all.

honestly, I hate to be a bother, but this is really a giant pain in the ass. can you please move back to the old site? this place makes me feel like washing my hands 42 times a day.

DAC

this is a slap in the face to your most loyal and prolific reader. if I were a subscriber, I'd unsubscribe. booooooo! booooooooooooooooo!

boooooooo!

dac

P.S.: boooooooooo!

yes, this is essentially the same as my journal, which as you know is inferior to your former thoughts page. why would you take a step down? besides, you haven't responded to my response on the rephrasing thread. why? because it's too much work to notice and go through all the clickety-clicking. bah!

I'm sorry for my immaturity regarding your new blog. I had a hard time adjusting. I still don't like it as much as your old one, mostly because of the comments issue. it's very difficult to tell if there are new posts from the numbers, and it's too easy for good discussions to fall between the cracks. I advocate returning to your old site and old format or fixing that issue somehow, but if you refuse, I will do my best to embrace the new ways and go with the flow.

Comments from Capital:
Yeah the blog really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really sucks.
So, there are obviously some problems. It would seem that the biggest problem that people have is the new way that comments will be done. Comments are now behind a link corresponding to each post I make, so for a visitor to read all the new comments, he/she would have to click on the link corresponding to each post. This presents a problem because it means that any discussions I have with my readers will get buried in the comments section, unlike in the past when discussions have taken place on the main blogging area.

To combat this problem, I will not respond to comments within the comments section, but rather for any comments that I want to respond to, I shall quote the post and respond to it on the main page, similar to how I responded to comments on this post. To ensure that I do not overlook any posts, I will have an automatic reminder sent to my e-mail address to notify me of any comments.

Another issue that some people are having a problem with is including their name with their comment. In the past, there was a specific field that prompted the reader for a name, but now it is easier to forget to include a name. But, with time, I think this will be an easy adjustment to make.

I'm sure that I'm omitting some other concerns that we have, so please feel free to comment with your concerns so that I may address them.

Nice police officer

I was driving home from work today and I was approaching an intersection where I needed to turn right. Ahead of me in my lane was a police car. As we approached the intersection, the police officer changed lanes to the left, so that I would have the opportunity to turn right on red.

Perhaps it was a simple coincidence that the officer should change lanes when I needed to turn right, but I think that maybe he was just being very nice...until he got behind me and ticketed me for failure to use my turn signal. Okay, just kidding about that last part.

U.S. Official Witnesses Sudan Attack

If I were president, I'd put my foot down and demand this genocide to stop.

What can I do instead of jogging?

I've gone jogging a few times in the past few weeks and I don't like it. I need to get some sort of exercise, but jogging is no fun. What else could I do? I like to walk, but I don't know if speedwalking would be appropriate. I want to exercise my cardiovascular system as well as burn fat.

Mothers Against Any Drinking Whatsoever

I found this to be interesting, some parents are being punished for letting kids drink at their home. Sure, that makes some sense, but if you take the attitude that kids are going to be drinking anyway, then letting kids drink in your own house is MUCH safer than giving kids the opportunity to drive home drunk. But, maybe some of these kids wouldn't be drinking unless they had a safe place to go. So, I dunno, read this and decide for yourself.

New blog

I kind of like having this new blog because it makes things much easier for me because now all I have to do is write what I have to say, unlike before when I'd have to do the HTML coding for my posts and then post what everyone else had to say.

Also, all responses to me will be posted behind a link near my corresponding post, so that will make your comments a little less accessible to everyone. Some people might like it this way, even though in the past my interaction with my readers was a considerable part of my posts. Still, I like this new way, I hope you do too.

re: rephrasing (to DAC)

The US army might have systematically executed people in Vietnam and Korea, you say. The 1950s are quite a far way back to go in order to compare the United States military to what Russia's military is doing NOW. Furthermore, your rephrasing omits any mention of the widespread disappearances in Russia, probabaly becuase the US Military isn't associated with any widespread disappearances, not now, not in Vietnam, not in Korea, not even in the freakin' Civil War, unlike the present-day Russian army.

I want Linux but my demo doesn't work

I'm interested in using Linux on my computer, so I downloaded a demo CD of SuSE Linux 9.1 that can run directly off of the CD without having to install anything. After finally figuring out how to run the CD on the computer, now when Linux turns on, my monitor says that the signal is "out of range" and nothing else displays on my screen. I've tinkered with the display resolution and with the options I have, but I haven't had any luck in fixing this, unless I load Linux in text mode, but that does me little good since I want to use the graphical interface. I'd really like to try out Linux, but it might not be worth it with all of these problems.

Blog name poll results

See the popular vote results for my blog name poll

As you can see, theTroy won the popular vote in a landslide, with 71% of the votes and a margin of victory of 57%. However, there have already been some accusations by certain parties that the ballot counts might be inaccurate, so to avoid any accusations of election-stealing or ballot-box stuffing, a manual recount is in order.

Unofficial popular vote results:

  • theTroy
  • XXXXX
  • Yort
  • X
  • Troybort
  • X

The hand counting of the ballots has completed and it validates the 5 votes for theTroy and the 1 vote each for Troybort and Yort. Additionally, a write-in vote for John McCain was uncovered. So, the official results show that theTroy wins the popular vote.

    Official popular vote results

  • theTroy
  • XXXXX
  • Yort
  • X
  • Troybort
  • X
  • JohnMcCain
  • X

However, these results are of no use to us here, since we only use the electoral vote, like all good democracies. The voters for theTroy are from an area for which 8 electoral votes were available. The voter for Yort lives in a much more populous (though far less politically active) area and the 15 electoral votes from that region all go to Yort. The JohnMcCain write-in and the vote for Troybort come from the same, even less populous, area and their 5 electoral votes will be split evenly.

    Final results:

  • Yort
  • 15
  • theTroy
  • 8
  • JohnMcCain
  • 2.5
  • Troybort
  • 2.5

    Observe the map below:

So, Yort cleanly won the election and my new blog will be named after Yort. Thank you to all who voted.
